Welcome to our Web site!

We have created this web site to help you gain a better understanding of your disability insurance benefits while you are completing your Medical training.  You were provided a copy of a Disability Insurance Booklet outlining the coverage provided by The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center during your orientation.  The program offers valuable income protection for you and is portable when you finish your training.  You may need a new copy of your benefit booklet so please contact William (Lu) Shimer either by email or phone to obtain your replacement copy.  You are also eligible for Supplemental Coverage in addition to the employer paid plan.

What if You Couldn't Practice Medicine?  This site will not only educate you on the benefits you currently have, but offer important information about additional products and services available to you during your training at the Wexner Medical Center.

Be sure to review all the pages on our site as it is our goal to educate you about the basic concepts of:

  • Your Disability Benefits - outlined in the OSUMC tab
  • Disability Insurance - review the Products tab for policy design, definitions and riders
  • Request A Quote - complete the form and we will contact you with a personalized quote
  • Residently Speaking - Copy of our quarterly newsletter full of valuable information for Resident Physicians

Don't forget to add our site to your list of "favorites" in your Internet browser.  We frequently update our information, and we wouldn't want you to miss any new developments.

To schedule a meeting to review your personal disability insurance options, please contact one of us!

Insurance for Two Could Benefit Your Heirs

Survivorship life insurance offers a way to help a couple's heirs pay estate taxes, probate costs, and other final expenses — and could be especially important after 2012 when the federal estate tax is scheduled to be significantly higher. Even if the estate tax doesn't apply to an estate, the insurance proceeds could benefit heirs or a favorite charity.

Federal Estate Tax Is Much Lower — For Now

The federal estate tax was repealed in 2010, then reinstated by the 2010 Tax Relief Act with new provisions for 2011 and 2012. This article discusses the temporary provisions, the options for estates of 2010 decedents, and potential changes in future years that could subject many more estates to the federal estate tax than under current law.
